Blair, Plourde Advance to Finals on Opening Day of Pac-12 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Skyler Blair and Simone Plourde led the way for the Utah track & field team on Friday, advancing to the finals of the 400m hurdles and 1500m run, respectively, to kick off the 2022 Pac-12 Outdoor Championships held inside the reimagined Hayward Field.
The 1500m crew of Plourde, Sophie Ryan and Lauren Peterson started the day off for the Women of Utah and was the second track event of the day after the 400m dash for the men's heptathlon. Plourde was the lone Ute to advance of the trio after posting a 4:20.67 mark, which was good for fourth overall. Ryan was the next finisher for Utah at 4:28.50 followed by Peterson at 4:34.35.
Over in the 200m sprint, Maya LeBar narrowly edged out Kelise Davis (25.24) with a time of 25.05. Utah's hurdling quartet of Blair, Bailey Kealamakia, Ruby Jane Mathewson and Rachel Whipple were next to the take the track and was led Blair's finals qualifying time of 1:00.33 – which was good for second in her heat and fifth overall. Mathewson was the next Ute to finish, posting a season-best time of 1:01.74 followed by Whipple (1:02.43) and Kealamakia (1:02.46).
Morgan Jensen closed out the opening day of the conference championships for Utah in the 10000m against a stacked field that saw the top-four finishers break the meet record. In just the second 10k race of her career, Jensen bested her previous time by more than 20 seconds with a mark of 34:23.67.
Day two action of the Pac-12 Outdoor Championships will kick off on Saturday, May 14, at 5 p.m. (MT) inside the reimagined Hayward Field with Mathewson and Whipple kicking things off for the Women of Utah in the 100m hurdles.
