Ducks Open Stockton Regional in Eighth

STOCKTON, Calif. – Oregon shot a 2-over 290 and was tied for eighth place following Monday's first round of the NCAA Regional at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
No. 16 Stanford held the first round lead at 10-under 278, followed by No. 4 Arizona State (279), Denver (282) and BYU (284). No. 21 LSU and Liberty were tied for fifth at 287 with Abilene Christian seventh at 289. The Ducks were three strokes back of the cut line after Monday's round.
The top five teams from the Stockton Regional will advance to will advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
UC Davis was tied with Oregon at 290. No. 9 Washington and Nevada were tied for 10th at 291.

How It Happened: The Ducks struggled in the first half of the round, playing their opening nine holes in 7-over par.
However, Oregon got it back after the turn with Yuki Moriyama holing five birdies and Owen Avrit carding four as the Ducks played the second nine in 5-strokes under par. For the round, Moriyama had six birdies, while Avrit had five.
Avrit was tied for 10th at 2-under 70, while Moriyama was a shot back and tied for 19th.
The Ducks also counted a 73 from Greg Solhaug (T37) and a 76 from Greyson Leach.

Three golfers held the individual lead at 4-under 68.

Notable: Avrit was under par for the 15th round this season. … With five birdies on Monday, Avrit went over 100 birdies (104) on the season. … Avrit was tied for the top spot in the field in par-4 scoring (-2). … Moriyama's six birdies were one shy of the tournament best. … This is Oregon's 15th straight NCAA Regional appearance.
