Samuel Cambere Named Inside Lacrosse All-American
SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah Lacrosse defenseman Samuel Cambere has been named to the Inside Lacrosse All-America team, earning honorable mention honors. Cambere is Utah's first All-American in program history.
Cambere, the 2022 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Conference selection, has played in 46 career games with 28 starts for the Utes. In 2022, the Flower Mound, Texas, native played in all 14 games with 11 starts, recording 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists), 66 ground balls and a school record 28 caused turnovers.
He earned ASUN Defensive Player of the week three times this past season, also being named to the USILA DI Team of the Week once. He finished the season ranked seventh in the country in caused turnovers per game (2.00), also ranking third in the conference in ground balls per game (4.79).
Cambere recorded three or more ground balls in 12 of Utah's 14 games this season and had at least one caused turnover in 13. He set new career-highs in ground balls and caused turnovers in 2022, notching nine ground balls against Robert Morris and a school record five caused turnovers against Bellarmine in the ASUN Semifinals.
Through 46 career games, Cambere holds the school record in career caused turnovers (72), also ranking second all-time at Utah in career ground balls (198).
