SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah Gymnastics announced the addition of vault All-American and three-time All-Big Ten selection Abby Brenner on Tuesday morning. Brenner, who was a 2021 national champion at Michigan, comes to the Red Rocks as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility left in her career.

"We are very excited to have Abby join our program," head coach Tom Farden said. "We believe her taking a fifth year speaks volumes about her love for gymnastics. Coming to us with an undergraduate degree in hand is rare, but we are thankful for the University of Utah and its attractive master's programs it can offer. We are confident that her personality and gymnastics will be a fantastic addition and that she will transition into our program effortlessly!"

Brenner was a three-event specialist during her four-year career at Michigan, competing on vault, bars and floor. She posted career highs of a 9.975 on vault and 9.95s on both bars and floor. The Maple Grove, Minn., native helped lead Michigan to three NCAA Championship appearances, three Big Ten Regular Season Championships, and two Big Ten Championships.

Brenner was a WCGA Regular Season All-American on vault as a sophomore in 2020 after finishing ninth in the nation with a 9.910 NQS. She earned first-team All-Big Ten honors her first two seasons as a Wolverine and landed on the second team this past season. During the 2022 season, Brenner competed on bars in every meet and scored a 9.90 or better in eight competitions.

Brenner comes to Utah as a two-time Big Ten Specialist of the Week and two-time Team Specialist Award winner. She has seven career wins (five on vault, one on bars and floor) and has posted 26 career scores of 9.90 or higher. The two-time team captain for the Wolverines was a five-time Junior Olympic National Champion and was teammates with Abby Paulson at Twin City Twisters prior to switching gyms to Metroplex Gymnastics, where she was teammates with Jaylene Gilstrap.

She earned her undergraduate degree in sport management at Michigan, and is a two-time WCGA Scholastic All-American and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She was the 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, as well as the 2021 and 2022 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner. The daughter of Joe and Laura Brenner will join the Red Rocks this upcoming fall.
