Carson Barry Advances To NCAA Championships

BRYAN, Texas – Carson Barry held on to win a playoff Wednesday, and will advance to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., starting May 27.
 
Barry finished his final round at 2-over 74, finishing 54 holes with a 3-under 213. He went to a tiebreaker playoff with SMU's Noah Goodwin, Alabama's Canon Claycomb and TCU's Aymerica Laussot to determine who would advance to the NCAA Championships as the player who finishes highest on a non-advancing team.
 
Both Barry and Goodwin advanced to a second playoff round after shooting par at the 444-yard, par-4 18th hole. Barry then shot par at the 439-yard, par-4 ninth hole to advance.

"I'm so excited for Carson," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "He hit perfect shots in the playoff. He kept the pressure on the other guys and made it look easy.
 
"Carson has worked so hard to keep getting better and it is great to see his hard work pay off."
 
Barry will now participate in the NCAA Championships as an individual at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 27-June 1.
 
The Eagle, Idaho, native, tied for fifth over the 54 holes of regulation play.
 
Taking second among OSU entrants was Mateo Fuenmayor, who posted a 3-over 219 to end his trip tied for 24th. He ended his trip at 6-over 277 on Wednesday.
 
Alfred Raja ended his three-day trip with an 11-over 227 after posting a 7-over 79 on Wednesday.
 
Jackson Lake and Brandon Eyre round out the top five for the Beavers, who finished in ninth overall as a team. Oregon State ends its trip to Texas at 21-over 885. Lake finished with an 8-over 80 on Wednesday and wrapped up play tied for 62nd at 16-over 232. Eyre was two spots below Lake with a 17-obver 233. He finished 64th after shooting a 9-over 81 on Wednesday.
