Miles Partain Named to Academic All-District Squad
UCLA men's volleyball setter Miles Partain was announced on Thursday as a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District® Division I Men's At-Large Team selection. The 2021‐22 Academic All‐District® Men's At‐Large Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. First‐team Academic All‐District® honorees like Partain will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All‐America® ballot. In mid-June, first‐, second‐ and third‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be honored by CoSIDA.
Partain, who has earned a 3.91 cumulative GPA, was named the 2022 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Player of the Year. He was a first-team 2022 NVA/AVCA All-America selection and a finalist for the Lloy Ball Award as the nation's top setter. This past season, Partain guided the Bruin offense to the nation's highest hitting percentage (.374). He ranked seventh in the NCAA in set assist average (10.21). Also an offensive threat himself, Partain totaled 19 multi-kill matches during the season. He was named Off the Block National Setter of the Week after helping UCLA post .384 and .364 hitting percentages in two wins over USC. Partain was named the winner of both the Molten/MPSF Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week during the season.
The UCLA men's volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals and returned to the No. 1 spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll for a nine-week run which was its longest stretch on top since a 13-week stay in 1995. The total of 22 wins in 2022 marked the first time UCLA has registered a 20-win campaign since 2018. Its nine-match winning streak during the season was the longest by a Bruin team since the 2016 squad opened the year with wins its first 10 matches. The Bruins also captured the MPSF regular season title for the first time since 1998.
