Last Game
Cooper Hjerpe scattered three hits and two runs with 10 strikeouts in six innings but he was countered by No. 23 UCLA's Max Rajcic in a 4-1 loss to the Bruins Thursday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Hjerpe gave up an unearned run in the first. The Bruins then scored another run in the sixth before the Beavers managed to score a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Gavin Logan groundout. The Bruins scored two in the ninth for the final three-run advantage. Hjerpe took the hard-luck loss, dropping to 9-2 on the year. Garret Forrester singled twice to lead the Beavers offensively.

Oregon State Notes
• Cooper Hjerpe's moved into second for single-season strikeouts at OSU surpassed three Beavers. He moved past Luke Heimlich (128 in 2017), Mike Stutes (129 in 2007) and Jonah Nickerson (131 in 2006). Hjerpe trails only Heimlich, who struck out 159 in 2018.
• Hjerpe also moved into a tie for 10th in the Oregon State career record books, totaling 249 strikeouts. He ties Scott Christman, who pitched from 1991-93.
• Garret Forrester walked for the 50th this season in the opener. That ties him with Steven Kwan and Trevor Larnach for the fifth-most in a season at OSU. Kwan and Larnach both walked 50 times in 2018.
• Justin Boyd also drew his 45th walk, moving him into a tie for 10th with Jeff Doyle (1976).
• The Beavers, as a team, have drawn 311 walks this season, which already surpasses the 2021 OSU club, which drew 282 in 61 games. OSU's modern record for walks in a single season is 337 set by the 1998 Beavers.
• The OSU pitching staff hit the 500-strikeout mark in Thursday's game. The Beavers have struck out 500 or more in the last five full seasons, including a school-record 611 last year.
• The Beavers are now tied for first in the Pac-12 standings as Stanford won on Thursday. OSU can clinch at least a share of the Pac-12 crown with a win Friday and Stanford loss to USC at Sunken Diamond.
• Oregon State's starting pitchers have struck out 157 to just 25 walks in 114 1/3 innings at Goss Stadium this season.
• Overall, OSU's starters have struck out 4.74 batters for every walk issued.
• The Beavers are second in the Pac-12 for total strikeouts, seven shy of UCLA. OSU does lead in Ks per nine innings at 9.58.
