Washington’s Season Comes to an End in Regional

SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies were able to force a game seven in a 2-1 game one win, but fell in the second game to Texas 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Gabbie Plain up her 20th win of the season after pitching for the third straight day. Plain was dealing; pitching a complete game with six strikeouts. Plain also navigated a choppy situation in the fourth inning. Texas had two runners on first and second, but was able to punch out Texas to end the fourth inning. Texas scored first on a solo home run in the fifth inning.
The Huskies pulled ahead in the sixth inning. Baylee Klingler, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, notched her second hit of the afternoon into right field for a single. Madison Huskey put UW ahead for good with a two-run homerun to left field to force a second game.
In the second game, Plain got her second start of the day and tossed 6.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Kelley Lynch came in to get the final out of the seventh inning.
It was a pitcher's duel through four innings until Texas broke through with a two-run double by Bella Dayton to take the 2-0 lead. Texas extended its lead in the seventh on an RBI double by Janae Jefferson.
The Huskies had three outs to tie the game. Sami Reynolds reached on an error to lead off the inning. Brooke Nelson followed with an RBI double by Brooke Nelson to cut the Longhorn's lead to two. Following a strikeout, Jenn Cummings came to the plate with two outs and hit an RBI single to right that scored pinch runner Lilly Agan. However, the Huskies were unable to bring in the tying run to end the game with the final score of 3-2.
The Huskies concluded the 2022 season with a record of 38-17.
