SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced today the baseball postseason honors, All-Conference and All-Defensive teams for the 2022 season, as determined by a polling of the league’s coaches. OREGON STATE's Jacob Melton was voted Pac-12 Player of the Year, while STANFORD's Alex Williams was voted Pitcher of the Year.  STANFORD's Braden Montgomery was tabbed Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, teammate Adam Crampton was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and their head coach David Esquer was voted the Pac-12 Coach of the Year. Stanford's Brett Barrera was crowned the Pac-12 Batting Champion with a league-leading .372 batting average.

PAC-12 PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jacob Melton, Jr., OF/INF, Oregon State (Medford, Ore.)
Considered by D1Baseball as the top outfielder in all of college baseball, Melton finished the regular season leading the conference in RBI (71), slugging percentage (.702), and total bases (146).  The junior is also ranked in the top 10 in the Pac-12 in several categories including second in stolen bases (19), third in doubles (20), fourth in batting average (.361), fourth in runs (57), fifth in home runs (15), seventh in hits (75), tenth in on-base percentage (.429).  This is the seventh time a Beaver has won this award and the third time in the last six years with Nick Madrigal in 2017 and Adley Rutschman in 2019.

PAC-12 PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Alex Williams, Sr., RHP, Stanford (Castro Valley, Calif.)
Nearly untouchable since the beginning of April, Williams becomes the second straight Stanford pitcher to win this award (Brendan Beck).  In eight starts since April 1, the senior has gone 6-0 while allowing just three runs in 59.2 innings which is good for a 0.45 ERA.  For the season, Williams leads the Pac-12 in ERA (1.67) and innings pitched (86.1) while also in the top five in the league in wins (second, 8) and opposing batting average (second, .192)

PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Braden Montgomery, Fr., OF/RHP, Stanford (Madison, Miss.)
Semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year, Montgomery starred both at the plate and on the mound in his first year on the Farm.  The freshman is among the league leaders in both home runs (5th, 15) and slugging percentage (6th, .624).  On the hill, Montgomery has made 14 appearances while striking out 25 in just 17 innings and has not given up a hit in his last four outings. He becomes the fourth Cardinal to win this award since its inception in 2000 and the first since Cal Quantrill in 2014.

PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Adam Crampton, Jr., INF, Stanford (Oakland, Calif.)
Crampton becomes the second Stanford player to win Defensive Player of the Year and the first to win it outright after Maverick Handley was a co-winner in 2019.  The junior shortstop only committed four errors during the regular season for a .979 fielding percentage while being a part of 21 of the 29 double plays Stanford turned.

PAC-12 COACH OF THE YEAR: David Esquer, Stanford
The Cardinals skipper picks up his third Coach of the Year award and second with Stanford.  Esquer won it in 2018, his first year on the Farm, and in 2001 when he coached across the bay in Berkeley.  Stanford, the preseason pick to win the Pac-12, found itself in late March at just 1-5 in conference play and 9-8 overall.  But Esquer's club won seven of its final eight conference series and finished the regular season on a 12-game winning streak to claim the regular-season title outright.

PAC-12 BATTING CHAMPION: Brett Barrera, Jr., INF, Stanford (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.)
Brett Barrera is your Pac-12 Batting Champion for 2022 after finishing the regular season posting a .372 average with 73 hits in 196 at-bats.  The junior showed marked improvement as a full-time starter this year after hitting just .215 in 65 at-bats in 2021 and is saving his best for last.  In the month of May during the regular season, Barrera went 23-55 (.418 AVG) with 21 RBI and 17 runs scored in just 13 games.
