FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On the second day of the West Preliminary Round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Arkansas, Arizona's efforts were highlighted Shannon Meisberger (400m hurdles) and Talie Bonds (100m hurdles), who advanced to Saturday's quarterfinal round in their respective events.
In order for both athletes to advance to the NCAA Finals in Eugene, Ore., they will have to finish in the top 12 of Saturday's quarterfinal races.
Day Two Highlights
Senior hurdler Shannon Meisberger easily won her heat in the 400m hurdles and would end up with the top qualifying time out of all the heats at 56.12, her fastest time in the event this outdoor season.
Junior Talie Bonds earned her spot in Saturday's quarterfinal of the 100m hurdles after finishing third in her heat to automatically qualify - and 10th overall – with a time of 13.22.
The Wildcats also had a pair of athletes in the shot put come up just short of punching their ticket to Eugene. Senior Samantha Noennig finished 13th with a throw of 16.91m (55'- ¾") while sophomore Mackenna Orie was right behind her in 14th with her throw of 16.78m (55'- ¾"), which set a new personal record.
Looking Ahead to Day Three
The men return to the track for their final day of competition in Fayetteville starting at 11:00 a.m. PT with Jakob Chamberlin in the discus. The Wildcats 4x400 relay team will wrap-up the night with their heats beginning at 6:45pm PT. The live stream of the events on the track will begin at 3:00 p.m. PT on SEC Network+ and Watch ESPN.
