Men's Golf Ready for NCAA Championships

Oregon returns to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2018 beginning Friday at Grayhawk Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Ducks qualified for the Championships after a fourth-place finish at the Stockton Regional, that included one of the best rounds in program history. The Championships begin with three rounds of stroke play Friday through Sunday. The top 15 teams will advance to a fourth round of stroke play on Monday, where the individual champion will be determined. The top eight teams after Monday advance to match play beginning on May 31.

TEAM NOTES
• The Ducks are the No. 21 seed and will be paired with Kansas and Arizona for the first two rounds.
• The is Oregon's 31st all-time appearance at the NCAA Championships, dating to 1947.
• At the NCAA Stockton Regional, the Ducks fired the second-lowest round in relation to par in school history, an 18-under 270 in the second round, to propel them to a top five finish.
• The Ducks have six top-five finishes in eight spring tournaments: The Prestige (2nd), Bandon Dunes Championship (1st), Duck Invitational (5th), The Goodwin (5th), Pac-12 Championships (4th) and NCAA Stockton Regional (4th). Oregon also won the Saint Mary's Invitational in the fall.

PLAYER NOTES
• Owen Avrit was named to the 2022 All-Pac-12 second team. He has had 17 sub-par rounds in 37 total rounds in 2021-22, including a career-low 64 at the Maui Jim Invitational. He leads the team with 113 birdies this season. Avrit also has five top-10 finishes in 2021-22. 
    At the NCAA Stockton Regional: T10 (-7 / 209).
    Avrit's rounds counted for team score: 33 of 37.

• Nate Stember finished tied for 10th at the Pac-12 Championship (+2) and was eighth at the Bandon Dunes Championship (+1).  
    At the NCAA Stockton Regional: T54 (+4 / 220).
    Stember's rounds counted for team score: 27 of 31.

• Yuki Moriyama finished third at the Pac-12 Championships for the second year in a row.  
    At the NCAA Stockton Regional: T17 (-4 / 212).
    Moriyama's rounds counted for team score: 21 of 25.

• Freshman Greyson Leach tied for first at the Husky Individual Invitational, shooting a 10-under 206. He tied the school record for low score in a Regional with a 65 in the second round at Stockton. He also tied for seventh at the Western Intercollegiate and tied for fourth at the Duck Invitational. 
    At the NCAA Stockton Regional: T17 (-4 / 212).
    Leach's rounds counted for team score: 15 of 16.

• Greg Solhaug posted back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Bandon Dunes Championship (T4) and the Duck Invitational (T9). He also tied for fifth at the Saint Mary's Invitational in the fall. He leads the team with eight rounds in the 60s this season.  
    At the NCAA Stockton Regional: T17 (-4 / 212).
    Solhaug's rounds counted for team score: 23 of 28.

• Eric Doyle set the UO freshman record with a 63 in the final round of The Goodwin. That was one shot off the school record of 62 shared by four players. His round included the Ducks' first ace of the season. He played his middle six holes in the final round six strokes under par: Birdie- Ace- Birdie- Birdie-Par-Birdie.

    Doyle's rounds counted for team score: 18 of 19.

MORE TEAM NOTES
• Oregon closed out the fall with an impressive victory at the Saint Mary's Invitational Nov, 8-10. The Ducks rallied over the final two holes to top No.6 Stanford by two strokes.
• The Ducks' last victory prior to Saint Mary's was a tie for the title at the 2018 Duck Invitational. It was Oregon's first win at Saint Mary's since 2011.
• The Ducks' also won the Bandon Dunes Championship for the first time since 2017.
• The  last time Oregon won twice in the same season was 2017.
 • The Ducks carded the third-lowest score in program history, 820 (20-under), at the season-opening Maui Jim Invitational. Oregon was -27 for the last two rounds.
• Former PGA Tour pro and 2000 U.S. Amateur champion Jeff Quinney was named the as the team's assistant coach in August. The Eugene native held his PGA Tour Card for five seasons from 2007-11 and finished his career with nearly $6 million in career earnings.
