Beavers Complete First Day at NCAA Championships

SARASOTA, Fla. – All three Oregon State women's rowing boats will head to C/D semi-finals on Saturday, as the Beavers competed in day one of the NCAA Rowing Championships Friday in Sarasota, Fla.
 
The Oregon State Varsity 8 is slated for the third semi-final Saturday morning. The Beavers' top boat opened its day by placing third in its heat with a time of 6:25.8, qualifying for the afternoon repechage. The group proceeded to finish 3rd again in the afternoon, clocking in at 6:19.8 – less than a second behind second-place Virginia, who advanced to the A/B semi-final. The OSU V8 will return to action tomorrow at 5:12 a.m. PT.
 
Oregon State's second Varsity 8 stopped the clock in 6:39.9 to take fifth in its morning heat. The boat then placed fifth again in the repechage, and will race in a 6 a.m. PT C/D semifinal on Saturday.
 
Oregon State's Varsity 4 opened its day with a fourth-place showing in the morning heat, and then followed that up by placing third in the repechage behind USC by just over a second. That boat's semifinal will take place at 6:48 a.m. PT on Saturday.
                                                  
The top-three boats from each semi-final advance to the "upper" C final (places 13-18), with the remaining boats heading to the "lower" D final (placed 19-22).
 
The Beavers are competing at NCAA Championships for the third time in program history and the first time since 2009.
