Smith Earns NFCA Third Team All-America Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – California catcher Makena Smith picked up yet another postseason honor on Wednesday, earning 2022 NFCA Third Team All-America recognition as announced by the association.

Last month Smith was named to both the All-Pac-12 and NFCA All-Pacific Region First Teams. She becomes the first California player to receive NFCA All-America honors since Nisa Ontiveros in 2016 and is the 43rd Golden Bear to be named an NFCA All-American in history.

Smith, a team leader and captain, led the Bears with a .412 batting average, the fourth-best in the Pac-12 this season.

The Murrieta, Calif., native led Cal in total bases with 101, tallying six doubles and a triple, while tying for the team lead in home runs (13), even after missing 13 games due to injury.
