Beavers Complete Day 1 at IRA’s

Jun 3, 2022

MERCER LAKE, N.J. – The Oregon State men's rowing team completed the first day of IRA Championships on Friday in New Jersey.

"The IRA has the best teams in the country racing at their highest level," said Oregon State head coach Gabe Winkler. "The heats went off fast and the strategy was to pull a good first 1000m and set yourself up for the reps. All boats fought well in the reps but the best pieces will have to be tomorrow in the semi's."

The Beaver Varsity 8 started the day by placing fifth in its morning heat, clocking in with a time of 6:06.6 to advance to the fourth repechage. OSU proceeded to finish third in the repechage to advance to tomorrow's C-D semi-final.

The Oregon State 2V8 also finished fifth in its morning heat, coming in at 6:21.6. That boat took third in the second repechage and will take part in Saturday's C-D semi-final.

The OSU 3V8 placed sixth in its heat, coming in at 6:19.1, before taking fifth in its afternoon repechage. The boat will compete in Sunday's third-level final.

The Beavers have competed in every IRA Championship since 2013, and have finished as high as fourth at the event (2002).
