Oregon State routs San Diego to advance to Corvallis Regional Final

Jun 4, 2022

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Garret Forrester and Travis Bazzana each homered and Wade Meckler tallied three hits to pace Oregon State to a 12-3 win over San Diego Saturday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

With the win, the Beavers (46-15 overall) advanced to the Corvallis Regional Final, set to be played Sunday night at 6 p.m. PT.

Forrester hit a two-run home run in the second, his eighth long ball of the season. He later drove in a run on a single in the fourth, giving him three RBI on the night and five in two games at the regional.

Bazzana capped Oregon State’s night offensively, hitting a solo home run to open the ninth.

Meckler singled in the first, doubled in the fourth and singled again in the sixth. He picked up his 25th multiple-hit game of the season.

The Beavers scored their first two runs of the game in the first on a San Diego error, which was followed by a Jake Dukart triple to give OSU a 4-0 advantage. Forrester added to the lead with two in the second, then watched as Matthew Gretler and Kyle Dernedde both drove home runs in the third.

Jake Pfennigs made his 10th start of the season, and limited San Diego to three runs on six hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and improved to 4-0 on the year.

Oregon State Notes

- The teams met for the 20th time and first since OSU took a pair of games during the 2018 season. Oregon State, which has won five straight in the series, is 10-10 all-time against the Toreros.

- Jake Pfennigs improved to 3-0 at home this season and 5-1 in his career. Pfennigs has won his last three starts at Goss Stadium.

- Justin Boyd stole his 24th base of the season in the seventh. That moved him into a tie for seventh for a single-season at OSU. He equaled Jeff Doyle’s 24 in 1976.
