SEATTLE – Kate Morin is officially a Husky. A four-year starting libero for her high school in Phoenix, Ariz., Morin will be a freshman for the Huskies this fall, but won't have to wait that long for her first road trip.
Morin racked up over 1,500 digs in high school, and played club for East Valley Juniors. Of the new 5-foot-6 defender, UW Head Coach Keegan Cook said, "We're excited to finally announce Kate's commitment. Kate has developed into one of the top defensive libero prospects in the west. She will elevate our back row defense and ball control immediately. I'm looking forward to seeing her growth and I believe the best is ahead for her."
A trip to Europe might be more customary for college graduates than for high school grads, but Morin will be enjoying one right after graduating from Desert Vista High School. Morin, along with fellow incoming freshman Elise Hani, will be joining the Huskies on their foreign tour, getting an early chance to connect with their new teammates. The Dawgs depart this Saturday, June 11, for a 13-day adventure.
Morin helped her East Valley Juniors club win the 2021 Arizona Region title, and take third-place at Junior Nationals in the 17-American bracket. She was a 2021 6A AIA All-Region First Team pick and Tempe All-City First Team. Morin also earned First Team All-Arizona Academic Honors from 2018-22.
"I knew I wanted to come to UW very early on. I watched all of their games and could definitely see the special bond that the team and the coaches had together. I knew it was something I really wanted to be a part of. When I was able to go up to visit, I instantly knew this would be my home. I always dreamt of playing for a big program and being at a big academic school, but also somewhere that it would be like being a part of a family. I feel that this is what I found at UW. I am so excited to live out my dreams with the best people by my side." - Kate Morin
