Rodrigues, O’Riley Conclude Seasons at NCAA Outdoor Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – The 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway on Wednesday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., and it was the men that took center stage. Arizona had two athletes competing in field events on the day, with freshman Reinaldo Rodrigues finishing 18th in the long jump and sophomore Jared O'Riley placing 21st in the javelin.
Rodrigues, a native of Brazil, started with a jump of 7.43m (24'-4 ½") in his first attempt, and that would end up being his best effort on the day. He followed with distances of 7.13m (23'-4 ¾") and 7.15m (23'-5 ½") in his second and third attempts.
O'Riley opened with a throw of 65.42m (214'-7") in his first attempt, and that would end up being his best of the day. He also had throws of 64.49m (211'-7") and 63.99m (209'-11").

On Thursday, it will be the two athletes on the women's side for Arizona that will look to advance to Saturday's finals in their respective events. Talie Bonds will run in the 100m hurdles at 6:32 p.m. (PT) while Shannon Meisberger will compete in the 400m hurdles at 7:30 p.m. Both races will be televised live on ESPNU.
Both will need to finish in the top two of their heat to automatically advance or have one of the three fastest times by those not in the top two of their heat to move on.
