Oregon State Hall Of Famer Rockne Freitas Passes

Oregon State Hall of Famer Rockne Freitas has passed away at the age of 76.
 
A 1991 Oregon State Hall of Fame selection, Freitas lettered three years as a center for the Oregon State football team from 1965-67 and played on the 1965 Rose Bowl team. He also played in the Hula Bowl, Coaches All-America Bowl and the College All-Star Game.

He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round in 1967, but played all 11 of his professional seasons with the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 1972 season.

Freitas served 23 years in higher education for the state of Hawai'i, including Chancellor of the University of Hawai'i system.

He was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.
