Bears To Face TCU At Emerald Coast Classic

NICEVILLE, Fla. – The bracket for the 2022 Emerald Coast Classic was announced by Global Sports on Tuesday, unveiling a semifinal contest between California and TCU on Friday, Nov. 25.
 
The Golden Bears and Horned Frogs will tip off at 6:30 p.m. PT inside Raider Arena on the campus of Northwest Florida State College following the first semifinal matchup of the day between Clemson and Iowa. The championship and a third-place game will be played the following day on Saturday, Nov. 26. Cal's semifinal game against TCU and the championship contest will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
 
Cal is 2-0 all-time against TCU, though the two programs' most recent clash happened more than two decades ago on Nov. 18, 1999 at the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska when the Bears earned a 91-83 victory. Cal bested TCU in their first meeting, 76-74, on Dec. 27, 1971 at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
 
The Bears are 4-6 all-time against Iowa (last meeting was in 1996) and defeated Clemson, 61-60, in the 1999 NIT championship game, which was the lone meeting between the two teams.

All four of the tournament's headlining programs will host on-campus first-round games against four additional Emerald Coast Classic teams in the week prior to arriving in the Sunshine State, with Cal hosting Southern on Friday, Nov. 18 at Haas Pavilion. The game time and television details for this matchup will be announced at a later date.
 
Cal defeated Southern, 82-63, in Berkeley on Nov. 23, 2004 in the lone meeting between the two schools.
 
Previous Emerald Coast Classic champions include LSU (2021), Florida State (2019), Cincinnati (2018), TCU (2017), Virginia (2016), Iowa State (2015) and Ole Miss (2014). It will be the second consecutive season that Cal has played in a Thanksgiving tournament in Florida; the Bears participated in the 2021 Fort Myers Tip-Off this past season along with Florida, Ohio State and Seton Hall.
