Cal Men’s Soccer Announces 17-Game Schedule

BERKELEY – The Leonard Griffin era of California men's soccer starts in August, when the Golden Bears will begin a 17-game regular season, including nine home games and eight away matches, preceded by three exhibition contests. The Pac-12 Networks will broadcast one exhibition and nine regular-season games, including the home opener vs. Villanova on Aug. 28.
 
The Bears play at UC Riverside on Aug. 12 in their first exhibition, play Cal State Bakersfield at a neutral site TBA on Aug. 14, and then host Pacific at Edwards Stadium on Aug. 19 in their last exhibition. The Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Bay Area will show the game vs. the Tigers.
 
Griffin, who joined the Cal program as head coach in March, will lead the Bears into the regular season on Aug. 25 at Cal State Fullerton. Cal returns to Berkeley to play Villanova three days later at Edwards Stadium. The clash with Nova is slated to start at 1 p.m. and is the first of four doubleheaders with the Cal women's soccer team this season. The Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Bay Area will air both Cal games.
 
The Cal men play three more nonconference games – Sept. 2 at UC Irvine, Sept. 4 at UC San Diego and Sept. 10 vs. Cal Baptist – before opening Pac-12 Conference play at home. The Bears host San Diego State in the conference opener on Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. and then continue Pac-12 play vs. UCLA on Sept. 18 at Edwards Stadium. The latter is part of another doubleheader with the Cal women, with the men's game scheduled for 4 p.m. The Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Los Angeles will show the men's games vs. SDSU and UCLA.
 
The Bears briefly return to nonconference action when they host Saint Mary's on Sept. 25.
 
Cal clashes with Stanford in the first game of the Big Clasico on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. on the Farm. The Pac-12 Network and Pac- Bay Area will air the match.
 
The Bears head to the Pacific Northwest to play defending Pac-12 champion Oregon State on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. and then take on NCAA runner-up Washington on Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. Cal-OSU will air on Pac-12 Oregon, while the Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Washington will show the game at UW.
 
Cal plays its last nonconference game of the regular season on Oct. 15, when the Bears host San Francisco.
 
The Bears play their second game of the year against UCLA on Oct. 20, with the Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Los Angeles showing the 7:30 p.m. contest. Cal ends its last road trip of the regular season on Oct. 23 at San Diego State.
 
Cal hosts its last three games of the regular season, starting with an Oct. 27 meeting with Washington, which is part of another doubleheader with the Cal women. The Cal men play at 3 p.m., and Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Washington will broadcast the match. In another doubleheader on Oct. 30, the Cal men play Oregon State at 12 p.m. on Pac-12 Oregon. The Bears will close out the regular season when they play at Stanford on Nov. 10 at a time TBA at Edwards, with Pac-12 Bay Area airing the match.
 
The NCAA tournament begins with first-round games on Nov. 17, with the College Cup semifinals and final set for Dec. 9-11 in Cary, North Carolina.
