2022 Sun Devil Volleyball Schedule Announced

Jun 16, 2022

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Volleyball has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2022 season this fall, which features a home tournament to start things off on August 26-27.

"The team worked hard this spring and I believe we will be ready for the challenges that come our way," Head Coach Sanja Tomasevic said. "I'm super excited for the non-conference schedule we've been able to put together. We are definitely going to get tested starting with the first weekend at home on August 26th and 27th. We won't be at home the whole month of September, which is not ideal, but I believe it is something that will just make us stronger and help us achieve our long-term goal for this season. We want to be able to earn everything that we've set out for ourselves. We can't wait to get started!"

This season looks to be another competitive challenge for Arizona State, who went 14-17 (7-13 Pac-12) last year with three wins over ranked opponents. The schedule features 10 NCAA tournament teams: four in non-conference play and six in the Pac-12. Eight of the 10 teams won at least one game in the tournament, with three making the Sweet Sixteen and one (Georgia Tech) in the Elite Eight. Currently there are 10 matches set to air on the Pac-12 Network.

Starting with non-conference play, the Sun Devils will play in four tournaments to begin the season. First, ASU will host a tournament at Desert Financial Arena from August 26-27, bringing into town Toledo, NIU and Cal State Bakersfield. That last match against Bakersfield will be live on the Pac-12 Network.

Following that tournament, Arizona State hits the road for five-straight weeks. ASU will play a tournament at Georgia Tech the first weekend of September before heading to Texas to play in Baylor's four-team event the following weekend. Finally, non-conference play will wrap up at Texas Tech on September 16-17.

Pac-12 play will begin at Arizona on September 21, live on the Pac-12 Network. The Sun Devils look to get back on track against the Wildcats after dropping both matches last fall. That weekend, ASU will also travel to Colorado to take on the Buffs, whom the Sun Devils swept last season. Arizona State will see the mountain schools just once each this season. The final road trip of this stretch will be at Oregon and Oregon State at the end of September. ASU is looking for redemption against both teams as the Sun Devils dropped the season series against both schools in the fall.

Returning home, Arizona State will host the California schools for two-straight weekends. First, UCLA and USC will come to town October 7 and 9, respectively. The next weekend will bring in Cal and Stanford to DFA, ASU looking to win two in a row at home against both after beating them in Tempe last season. Wrapping up the first half of conference play, ASU will travel to Washington and Washington State on October 21 and 23, respectively, to try to get back on track against those schools, having dropped three in a row to UW and four in a row to WSU.

The second half of the Pac-12 slate will see the Sun Devils alternate between home and away weekends. ASU will start at home against Oregon State and Oregon at the end of October. The first weekend of November will see the Sun Devils in Los Angeles to take on the Trojans and Bruins. Back home, the Sun Devils will take on the Cougars and Huskies in Desert Financial Arena. The last road trip will be in the Bay Area against Stanford on November 18 and Cal the next day.

The regular season will wrap up with two home matches, first against Utah on November 23, with whom ASU split the season series last fall. The final rivalry match against the Cats will be on November 26 in DFA.
