BERKELEY – The California men's and women's cross country teams announced five upcoming meets this fall with the release of the 2022 schedule on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Bears will kick off their 2022 campaign at the USF Invite on Sept. 3. The season-opener will take place just across the bay in San Francisco's historic Golden Gate Park. At last year's USF Invite, the Bears took home three individual top-10 finishes and the men's squad claimed a second-place team finish.
The Bears will then travel to Riverside, Calif., to race at the UCR Invite on Sept. 17. They then take a four-week hiatus from competition before returning to action on Oct. 15 at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara.
Championship season commences on Oct. 28 at the Pac-12 Championships, this year hosted by USC in Los Angeles. At the 2021 Pac-12 Championships, the men's and women's teams took eighth and ninth-place, respectively. Standout performances at the meet included Garrett MacQuiddy, who clocked in at 25:15.5 in the 8,000-meter race, finishing in the 34th position. Just behind him in 39th–place was Carrick Denker who crossed the line in 25:24.5. On the women's side, Erin Archibeck was the top Cal finisher. Archibeck finished in 37th-place with a time of 21:56.8 in the 6,000-meter competition. This year, the Pac-12 Network will stream the championship races live for the fifth consecutive year.
The team will continue championship season at the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 11 in Seattle. Qualifying teams and individuals then advance to the 2022 NCAA Championships hosted by Oklahoma State on Nov. 19.
