Men's Tennis Selected to Compete in 2023 ITA Kickoff

Jun 16, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – After finishing the 2022 season ranked No. 32 in the country, the Utah men's tennis team has been selected to compete in the prestigious 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend. This will be the first time the Utes have been chosen since 2020.

The Utes drew the Fort Worth, Texas regional, where No. 3 TCU is the host. Joining Utah and TCU are No. 41 Texas Tech and No. 58 Gonzaga.

The field, comprised of 15 host sites, was decided via the ITA Men's Kickoff Weekend Draft, with teams from around the country receiving the opportunity to choose which host site they would prefer to play at. The 15 host sites were predetermined based on 2022 year-end rankings. The selection order was based on year-end finish, starting with the No. 16 ranked team and running until all of the spots were filled.

The 14th annual running of the event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, January 28-29, 2023 at TCU. The winner of the TCU Regional will then advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships in Champaign, Illinois.

Utah finished the season with 21 victories, which was only the second time in program history to win 20 or more matches. The Utes were undefeated in region play and were ranked as high as 22 in the ITA Team rankings. They earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament during the 2022 season, which was the third time in the last four years.

The Utes opened the season, winning 16-straight matches, the best start in program history. The Utes finished fourth in the Pac-12, the highest finish in the conference since they joined the league.
