LAS VEGAS -- Thought you saw the last of Sean Dhooghe? The Arizona State men's ice hockey fan-favorite is suiting back up this summer as a skater in the inaugural season of 3ICE, a new six-team 3-on-3 hockey league starting on Saturday, June 18.
Dhooghe wore the maroon and gold for two seasons (2020-22) after transferring from Wisconsin following his junior year. The five-foot-three forward is beloved by fans for his mighty attitude and physical play (see Dhooghe's Saturday Night Takedown). He finished his NCAA career with 156 games played, 32 goals and 74 total points and returns to ASU in Fall 2022 on the hockey staff as a graduate assistant.
The Illinois native takes to the ice in Las Vegas as part of the inaugural season opener on June 18 at Orleans Arena. Dhooghe was selected to Team Trottier by 3ICE coach Bryan Trottier, a first-ballot Hall of Famer and seven-time NHL Stanley Cup Champion, earning six as a player and one as an assistant coach for the Colorado Avalanche. Trottier was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in History in 2017.
3ICE will hold tournaments in nine North American cities this summer, featuring teams coached by NHL legends. Each game will consist of two eight-minute periods, using a running clock, on a full-sized rink. Each team has seven players (including one goalie) and competes in a nine-week season that will feature six games each night.
