Doan and Murchison Invited to USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Arizona State men's ice hockey players Josh Doan and Ty Murchison were invited to the 2022 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp (NJEC) at the USA Hockey Arena on July 24-August 3. The sophomore pair are included in a sixty-player group named to the camp roster taking place in Plymouth, Mich.

The 2022 U.S. National Junior Team will play in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship August 9-20 in Edmonton, Alberta, and the final 23-player roster is expected to be announced by August 3. The tournament was originally scheduled for Dec. 26, 2021 - Jan. 5, 2022, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, but was canceled due to COVID.

Doan played all 35 games last season on his way to setting a new ASU single season record for total points scored by a freshman with 37 (12G, 25A). The Tim Taylor Rookie of the Year Finalist became the new ASU single season record holder for assists by a freshman with 25. The Arizona Coyotes draft pick finished the season with 10 multi-point games and tallied the most points by all NCAA freshmen in the regular season (37). 

Murchison joined Doan on the ice for all 35 games of their rookie seasons. The California native added a big physical presence to the 2021-22 ASU roster, blocking 52 shots and completing the season with a +5 plus/minus. The young d-man put in work from the blue line as well - tallying a multi-goal night against Colorado College and netting two game-winners.

The roster for the 2023 U.S. National Junior Team, which will play in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2022 - Jan. 5, 2023, in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick, is expected to be announced in mid-December.

A total of 21 states are represented among the 60 invited players, comprised of 35 forwards, 20 defensemen and five goaltenders.

Most recently, the U.S. earned gold at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, its fifth top-of-the-podium finish in the event. The U.S. has claimed 13 total medals in the World Juniors, including five gold (2021, 2017, 2013, 2010, 2004), two silver (2019, 1997) and six bronze (2018, 2016, 2011, 2007, 1992, 1986).
