Pac-12 Conference Names Dylan Teves & Gabbie Plain 2021-22 Tom Hansen Medal Winners

Jun 22, 2022

SEATTLE – UW seniors Gabbie Plain (softball) and Dylan Teves (men's soccer) were named the Washington recipients of the 2021-22 Tom Hansen Medal, the Pac-12 Conference announced today.

The award is given annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac-12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving for 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.

Teves (Kailua, Hawai'i) graduated from Washington with his degree in finance. Following the 2021 season, Teves signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Seattle Sounders. The 2021 Pac-12 Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Player of the Year helped guide the Huskies to a 2019 Conference Championship, four NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2021 College Cup during his career. This past season, Teves was honored as one of three finalists for the MAC Herman Trophy, presented to the top player in collegiate soccer. During his career, he earned two First Team All-American accolades (2020, 2021) and two First Team All-Pac-12 honors (2020, 2021). Teves becomes the first Tom Hansen Medal winner for men's soccer since Kasey French in 2019-20.

Plain (Harrington Park, Australia) finished her career as one of best as a four-time All-American, the second in program history to do so, and an Academic All-American. Plain cemented her spot in the UW record books after becoming the second Husky to reach 1,000 career strikeouts and the fourth to notch 100 career wins. The 2021 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year earned 11 conference Pitcher of the Week honors over her five seasons and was named First Team All-Pac-12 four times. Plain graduated with a double major in psychology and anthropology with double minors in diversity and education, learning & society. Plain is the eighth softball player to earn the medal and the second consecutive honor after Sis Bates was recognized in 2020-21.
