Jun 24, 2022

TeeTee Terry made Team USA in the women's 100m dash and Celera Barnes bettered her second-place standing on USC's all-time women's 100m dash list to highlight USC's efforts during the second day of the 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. today (June 24).

Jalaysiya Smith won the 100m hurdles, and newcomers winning were Malik Mixon in the 110m hurdles and Johnny Brackins in the men's long jump at the 2022 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships which are also being held at Hayward Field today.

At the USATF Outdoor Championships:

  • Terry (USC, 2021) placed third in the women's 100m dash final with a time of 10.74 (+2.9w) to make the USA World Championships team.  Barnes ran a wind-aided time of 10.86 (2.9w) to place sixth in the women's 100m dash final.  In the semifinal earlier in the day, Barnes bettered her second-place standing on the USC women's all-time 100m dash list with a time of 10.94 (+1.8) to finish third in her heat and advance sixth to the final.  The person holding the USC record is Terry with a time of 10.89 and she ran a personal best of 10.87 (+1.8) to advance third to the final.

At the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships:

  • Brackins, who transferred to USC from Baylor and is currently enrolled in summer school, won the USATF U20 long jump title with a leap of 26-4.25/8.03m (+0.9) in his second attempt.  That jump moved him to fifth on USC's all-time long jump list and it is the farthest jump by a Trojan since Dietmar Haaf jumped 27-0.75 (2nd on USC's AT list) in 1990.  Brackins' jump today would have won the NCAA title earlier this month at this same track, which was won with a jump of 26-3/8.00m.  Brackins qualified for the NCAA Championships this season and had a best jump that day of 24-6.25/7.47m to place 17th and earn honorable mention All-American honors.  Brackins made the USA team for the U20 Championships to be held in Colombia in August.
  • Smith won the women's 100m hurdles title with a time of 13.21 (+0.4) in the final.  She reached the final by posting the fastest qualifying time in the first round of 13.26 (+0.4).  Smith is now eligible to represent USA at the World Athletics U20 Championships in August.
  • The incoming freshman Mixon won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.28 (+2.6w) in the finals and Brackins placed sixth with a time of 13.61 (+2.6w).  Both runners had a time of 13.64 in the prelims earlier in the day to advance to the final.
  • Mixon then doubled back to run 51.57 in the men's 400m hurdles to apparently advance fourth to the final tomorrow, however, later he was disqualified.
  • Maci Simmons took third in her women's 400m hurdles heat with a time of 63.14 to automatically advance to the final tomorrow.
  • Incoming freshman Darius Rainey had a time of 47.55 in the men's 400m to advance sixth to the final tomorrow.  Fellow incoming frosh William Jones had a time of 47.82 to place ninth, missing the finals by one position.

The 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships will also be held in Eugene, Ore. from July 15-24. The top three in each individual event qualify if they meet the qualifying standards. The 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships will be held in Cali, Colombia from Aug. 1-6.  The top two at the USATF U20s will qualify to represent USA if they meet the qualifying standards.
