SALT LAKE CITY – Utah's men's tennis head coach Roeland Brateanu has announced the commitment of Mateo Julio. Julio joins the Utes after spending four seasons at Purdue University.

"We are very excited to add Mateo to our Ute family, stated head coach Brateanu. "He brings a wealth of experience to our team after playing No. 1 in the Big Ten Conference. We can't wait to have him part of our team."

In his four-year career as a Boilermaker, Julio played majority of his matches coming at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 2 for doubles. As a freshman and junior, Julio advanced to the ITA Ohio Valley Quarterfinals. He defeated No. 46 Mattias Siimar of Michigan, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 for his first ranked win.

Before heading to Purdue, Julio climbed to an ATP ranking of 1,793 in 2015. In 2014 he reached the quarterfinals of the doubles flight in the El Ombu Cup. Julio also made the main draw in singles play in the Columbia F7 Futures, Argentina F9 Futures, and the Argentina F6 Futures.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Ute tennis program," remakred Julio. "I chose the U due to several reasons such as the great coaching staff, its reputation in academics, as well as the potential of this program and team, I believe we will accomplish great things. It will also be an enjoyable experience to share the team with a few guys from my home country. I can't wait to get started and be a part of the team."
