Six Bears Named to IRCA All-America Team

Six members of the men's rowing team earned All-American honors as announced by the IRCA.

BERKELEY – Six members of the national champion Cal men's rowing team have been named to the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) All-America Team.

Earning First Team honors were Angus Dawson, Ollie Maclean, Gennaro di Mauro, and Luca Viera. While Iwan Hadfield and Tim Roth were named to the Second Team.

Viera served as cox for the Bears' varsity eight that won the IRA Championship by almost two seconds over runner-up Yale. Dawson, Maclean, di Mauro, Hadfield, and Roth were also members of the V8+ that went undefeated this spring, capturing the Pac-12 Championship as well.

Earlier this week, Cal had 12 members named IRCA Scholar-Athletes. Earning the academic recognition was Tommy Barrell, Frederick Breuer, Harry Cox, Grant Fischer, Bret Holt, Elliott Kemp, Evan Lane, Maclean, Ryan Prendergast, Fred Roper, Christoph Seifriedsberger, and Viera.

To receive IRCA Scholar Athlete accolades, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore in eligibility, and have competed in a team's top three boats or raced in the 2021 IRA National Championship.

The Bears currently have four boats competing at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in the United Kingdom.
