Two Bruins Named to U.S. U21 Training Team
Incoming UCLA men's volleyball recruits Zach Rama and Andrew Rowan are two of 21 players who have been named to the U.S. Men's Volleyball Training Team roster. The U.S. Training Team will participate in a training camp September 9-17 in Anaheim, California. Twelve players from that group will be selected to compete at the 2022 U21 Men's Pan American Cup to be held in Havana, Cuba, September 18-26.
Rama, a 6-9 outside hitter from Phoenix, Arizona, and Rowan, a 6-7 setter from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., each earned spots on last year's Boys U19 National Training Team. Both players will join the UCLA men's volleyball program this fall for the 2023 season. Rama attended Sandra Day O'Connor High School and was named the Arizona Player of the Year in 2021. He played for AZ Fear Volleyball Club. Rowan is a product of J Serra High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. and played his club ball for OCVC.
Balboa Bay Volleyball Club coach Andy Read, who led the U.S. Men's National Team to bronze at the 2021 Men's Pan American Cup, returns for this year's U21 edition. "Representing USA Volleyball as the coach of the U21 Men's team is one of the greatest opportunities I've been afforded in my coaching career," Read said. "I'm not just preparing these athletes for the upcoming Pan American Cup, but for their future in the sport. I am honored to work with so many outstanding coaches and players in this exciting endeavor."
