Two Bears To Compete At FIBA U20 European Championships

Junior guard Ornela Muca and sophomore Claudia Langarita will play in the FIBA U20 European Championships starting next week.

BERKELEY – Two members of the Cal women's basketball team will play for their respective countries in the upcoming FIBA U20 Women's European Championship on July 8-17. Junior Ornela Muca will play for Albania, while sophomore Claudia Langarita will play for Spain.

All group stage games for both the A and B Division tournaments will be streamed on FIBA's YouTube Page. Which can be accessed here.

Muca will once again be competing for Albania in the B Division, which will be played in Skopje, Macedonia. The Athens, Greece native, last played for her native Albania in 2019 in the U-18 Division B European Championship.

Muca played in seven games in that tournament and averaged 36.9 minutes per contest while averaging 14.9 points per game which ranked 10th in the tournament.

Albania will play in Group A against Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and Greece. Albania begins group play on Saturday, July 9 when it takes on Greece at Sports Center Boris Trajkovski at 9:00 p.m. GMT/12:00 pm PT.

Langarita, a sophomore joining the Bears for the 2022-23 season, will represent her native Spain in the A Division. This is Langarita's fourth time playing for the national team, having represented Spain on the U16, U17, and U18 teams. Her U16 squad finished third in the 2019 FIBA Championship.

Last summer at the 2021 U18 Championships, Langarita appeared in five games, averaging 14.4 minutes per contest, while scoring 3.8 points per game.

Spain will play in Group C, taking on Poland, Bulgaria, and Lithuania in group play. First up for Spain will be Lithuania on Friday, July 8 in Sopron, Hungary at Novomatic Arena Sopron at 1:30 p.m. GMT/4:30 a.m. PT.
