Cal Completes Another Day At Henley Royal Regatta

Jul 1, 2022

HENLEY, UK – California women's rowing continued their historic debut at the Henley Royal Regatta on Friday.

Cal's eight boat put up a strong performance in the Island Cup Challenge versus Oxford, but were ultimately defeated by the Brits. Kaitlyn Turner coxed the boat, joined by Angela Szabo, Issy Cassidy, Julia Hunt-Davis, Antonia Galland, Katie McDermott, Ella Berger, Sophie Ward, and Sammie Henriksen (bow). They finished the heat just over one length behind their opponent, with a time of 7:22, knocking them out of the next round of competition.

"Our eight needed to have its best race, and unfortunately we fell short," head coach Al Acosta said. "The eight has improved since it's been here, but not enough to keep up with Oxford Brooks. The Kiwis pulled out of the pairs race, so Fien and Lucine are looking forward to racing in the semifinals tomorrow. All in all, this has been an amazing trip and the team is grateful for all the support from our families, friends and alumni that made this possible."

The duo of Lucine Ahyi and Fien van Westreenen will return to the water to take on Campbell-Orde and Heathe in tomorrow's semifinals race of the Hambleden Pairs Challenge.
