Vieira Competes with Team Portugal for FIBA U20 European Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women's basketball sophomore guard Inês Vieira is representing her home country of Spain in the 2022 FIBA U20 Women's Basketball Championship, July 8-16, in Sopron, Hungary. 
Vieira and the Portugal national team went 2-1 in group play over the weekend. Portugal opened play with a 68-47 win over Ireland on July 8 and followed it up with a 74-45 win over Latvia the next day. Portugal dropped its final game of group play to Serbia, 55-50. 
Portugal and Vieira will continue play on Tuesday, July 12, when they play Bulgaria in the round of 16. The tournament schedule can be found by clicking here

Over Portugal's three games of group play, Vieira played 27.6 minutes per game and averaged 5.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. She scored nine points in the win over Latvia as she dished out three assists. The next night she collected eight rebounds in the contest against Serbia. 
Vieira is no stranger to international play, as she was a member of Team Portugal at the U16 Women's European Championships in 2018 and 2019. She led Portugal to a silver medal finish at the 2019 European Championships, serving as the team captain. During the 2019 tournament, she averaged 8.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. 
Last season for the Utes, Vieira appeared in all 33 games while making four starts. She averaged 15.8 minutes, 4.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. She finished second on the team with 72 assists and had a career-high eight assists against Saint Mary's.
