BERKELEY – The 2021-22 California women's tennis program continued its banner year in the classroom on Monday, when the ITA named the Golden Bears an All-Academic Team and honored seven Bears – Jessica Alsola, Cami Brown, Valentina Ivanov, Erin Richardson, Makenna Thiel, Hannah Viller Moeller and Katja Wiersholm – with Scholar-Athlete status.

Cal was one of 250 NCAA Division I programs named an ITA All-Academic Team, with teams needing to compile a 3.2 grade-point average or higher to achieve the award. To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete needed to post a 3.5 or better GPA, with 1,517 players, including the seven Bears, collecting honors.

This marked the third season that Ivanov and Richardson, both juniors, were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, with sophomores Brown and Viller Moeller each earning the honor for the second time and freshmen Alsola, Thiel and Wiersholm picking up their first ITA academic accolades.

Head coach Amanda Augustus' squad also earned the Golden Bear Team Award this spring for posting the best GPA – 3.607 – throughout all of Cal's sports for the 2021-22 academic year. Additionally, Brown garnered the Golden Bear Achievement Award for notching the women's tennis team's top GPA.
