Norman Wins 400m Gold At World Athletics Championships

Michael Norman won the men's 400m gold medal and Dalilah Muhammad the women's 400m hurdles bronze medal during the eighth day of the 2022 World Athletics Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. today (July 22). 

  • Norman (USC, 2019) won the gold medal in the men's 400m by running down former World and Olympic champion Kirani James on the final stretch to win with a time of 44.29.  It is Norman's first gold medal in the 400m at the World Championships or Olympics.
  • Muhammad (USC, 2012) earned a bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 53.13.
  • TeeTee Terry (USC, 2021) ran the anchor leg for USA's women's 4x100m relay which won its heat with a time of 41.56 to automatically advance to the final tomorrow.  USA's time is the world leader and over a second faster than the next best time in its heat and 0.43 seconds faster than the next fastest qualifying team.
  • Aaron Brown (USC, 2014) led off and Andre De Grasse (USC, 2015) anchored Canada's men's 4x100m relay team which ran 38.10 to take second in its 4x100m heat to advance to the event final tomorrow.  Their time was third among the qualifiers.

Trojans scheduled to be in action tomorrow include: Nia Ali (W-100m H heats), Aaron Brown (M-4x100m), Andre De Grasse (M-4x100m), TeeTee Terry (W-4x00m) and athletes selected to run for their country's 4x400m relay team.
