Cal Women’s Basketball Announces Nonconference Schedule
BERKELEY – The Cal women's basketball team is pleased to announce its 2022-23 nonconference schedule. The Bears will play an 11-game slate that includes seven contests at Haas Pavilion.
Cal will play just one exhibition game this season and will begin regular season play on Monday, Nov. 7 when CSUN comes to Haas Pavilion. This will mark the eighth meeting between the Bears and Matadors, and first since the 2018-19 season, with Cal holding a 6-2 record, including six straight victories. The Bears will then partake in a special neutral site game on Nov. 12, which will be announced next month.
Cal stays in the Bay Area for two more contests, hosting Idaho and traveling to Saint Mary's on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 20. The matchup against Vandals is the fourth ever between the two teams, the first since the 2013-14 season. All-time Cal is 2-1 against Idaho. Against the Gaels, the Bears are 21-6 all-time and have won four straight, including a 73-55 win over SMC on Dec. 21, 2021. Last season, Saint Mary's won the Women's Basketball Invitational.
The following week, the Bears will play in the first of two midseason tournaments. Cal will travel to Los Angeles to participate in the Loyola Marymount Thanksgiving Tournament Friday, Nov. 25, and Saturday, Nov. 26 at Gersten Pavilion. Also participating in that tournament will be Montana and Wichita State.
Cal returns home to host the annual Raising the B.A.R. Invitational Powered by Cal. The two-day tournament will take place Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 and will include SMU, Arkansas Pine Bluff, and Gardner-Webb. For the second consecutive year, the tournament will feature four teams coached by Black female head coaches.
Cal will wrap up its non-conference slate with three straight contests at home, starting with Pacific (Dec. 10), UC San Diego (Dec. 16), and Florida A&M (Dec. 18). All-time the Bears are 25-2 against the Tigers and have won five straight. The last meeting between the two took place on Nov. 18, 2018, with Cal winning 81-69. Against the Tritons, the Bears are 4-1, having won four in a row, including a 64-54 win last season in La Jolla. This will be the first-ever meeting between Cal and Florida A&M which hails from the SWAC.
