NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The USC lacrosse team was chosen for 2022 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad laurels on Wednesday, July 27. As one of 295 teams chosen across all three NCAA Divisions and the NAIA, it is the sixth time that the Women of Troy have earned Academic Honor Squad status and the first since 2019.
Six Trojans were also among 870 student-athletes from 94 different institutions honored on the 2022 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. Among those Women of Troy are junior defender Danielle Carson (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh HS), junior defender Olivia Dooley (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset HS), senior midfielder Michaela McMahon (Bardonia, N.Y./Saddle River Day School), junior midfielder Sloane Murphy (Denver, Colo./Colorado Academy), senior midfielder Katie Ramsay (Darien, Conn./Darien HS), and graduate defender Lizzy Wagner (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius Preparatory Academy).
To be eligible for the individual honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. To qualify as an Academic Honor Squad, a women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.20 or higher team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.
USC previously was chosen as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad in 2014, '16, '17, '18, and 2019. Ramsay is on the Academic Honor Roll for the second time ('21) while the other five Trojans appear on the honor roll for the first times in their careers. Carson, Dooley, McMahon, Murphy, and Ramsay were also members of the Pac-12's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
In 2022, the Women of Troy (13-5) received one of 14 at-large berths into the NCAA tournament and made their fifth appearance in the national tourney. USC tied for first place in the final Pac-12 regular-season standings with an 8-2 conference record. 10th-year head coach Lindsey Munday(123-54, .695) led the Trojans to three three-game win streaks and one four-game win streak en route to the program's fifth highest single-season win total. Graduate midfielder and captain Kelsey Huff became the program's sixth IWLCA All-American and collected a ninth All-America certificate for the Women of Troy. Huff was named the Pac-12's Midfielder of the Year for the second time and Olivia Dooley was chosen as the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
