Bronze For Jett In 100-Meter Butterfly
IRVINE, Calif. – California rising sophomore Gabriel Jett earned his second medal of the 2022 Phillips 66 National Championships, placing third in the 100-meter butterfly to highlight a group of seven Golden Bears who were in action on Thursday.
All seven Bears who competed in Thursday's pair of men's events advanced to the A or B final.
Jett, clocked a personal-best 52.17 seconds to earn the second seed in prelims before later taking the bronze medal with a 52.19 finish in the A final. The Clovis, California – who won the 200m fly national title on Tuesday and touched the wall first in Wednesday's 200m free B final – was followed in the 100m fly A final by Trenton Julian, who took sixth in 52.58.
Matthew Jensen (53.04) and Olympian Tom Shields (53.85) finished 14th and 16th overall in the 100m fly B final.
Sean Grieshop claimed sixth place in the 400m individual medley, clocking 4:18.85. He was sixth seed in the A final following a 4:18.22 in morning prelims. Jason Louser and Tyler Kopp took 10th and 14th in the B final with respective times of 4:18.33 and 4:21.54.
The penultimate day of the 2022 Phillips 66 National Championships will feature the 400m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke events. Prelims beginning at 9 a.m. PT and finals at 5 p.m. PT. Finals will be broadcast live on Olympic Channel, while prelims can be streamed on http://www.usaswimming.org/watch.
