Cook Named To Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

Jul 28, 2022

Washington safety Alex Cook has been named to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy.

Cook, a sixth-year senior from Sacramento, has been a starter in the Husky secondary for most off the last two seasons, starting nine games last season and three out of four in 2020. He originally came to the UW as a wide receiver, but moved to defensive back, prior to the 2019 season. Last year, he notched 46 tackles, third among returning players.

Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society and inspire greater service in the world.
