Beyer Makes U20 German National Team
BOULDER—Colorado sophomore Jenny Beyer was selected as one of 23 players to represent Germany at the U20 World Cup in Costa Rica.
Germany played a friendly against the Netherlands on Friday in preparation for the tournament set to begin on Aug. 10. Germany will open against Colombia. The squad will also play New Zealand (Aug. 13) and Mexico (Aug. 17) to round out group play.
"I'm really thankful that I got this opportunity," Beyer mentioned. "I'm feeling really honored to represent Germany. I'm going to have to work hard, but it's an amazing feeling that I was able to go from the U15, U16, U17 and now U20 national team."
Beyer's selection means she will potentially miss the start of the Buffaloes' season while with Germany. The final match of the World Cup is slated for Aug. 28. CU's season opens on Aug. 18 against Weber State.
"Some of the best players in the world will be there," Beyer added. "It's going to be an amazing opportunity to grow as a person and get all this experience. Hopefully, we're going to win"
Beyer missed all of the Buffaloes' 2021 season. She played in 11 games as a freshman in the 2020 season, played in 2021, before suffering a season-ending knee injury. She started 10 games and recorded one assist in 761 minutes.
Beyer joins current CU volunteer assistant Nikki Malone as active Buffs to play in the U20 World Cup. Malone won gold with the U.S. in 2007.
