USC’s Nikolaos Polychroniou Takes Fourth In The Hammer Throw At 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships
Nikolaos Polychroniou placed fourth in the men's hammer throw and Jalaysiya Smith and Johnny Brackins Jr. advanced to event finals at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships held in Cali, Colombia. today (Aug. 4). The World Athletics U20 Championships run through Aug. 6.
- Polychroniou, competing for his native Greece, placed fourth in the men's hammer throw (6kg) with a best mark of 249-9 (76.16m). He finished eight inches behind the silver medalist Max Lampinen from Finland and seven inches behind the bronze medalist Iosif Kesidis of Cyprus who passed him on his final attempt. Polychroniou advanced to the finals by virtue of his mark of 240-0 (73.16m) in the preliminary round on Aug. 2.
- Smith won her qualifying heat in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.42 (+0.3) which was fourth among the qualifiers to the semifinal tomorrow.
- Johnny Brackins led the leadoff leg for USA's men's 4x100m which ran a season-best 39.78 to win its heat and automatically advance to the event final tomorrow.
