2022 Football Fall Camp: Rice-Eccles Rundown, September Home Games

The University of Utah Football season is right around the corner with the Utes hosting six games inside Rice-Eccles Stadium in 2022 with Utah fans continuing the tradition of making RES one of the toughest stadiums to play in each season.
 
During fall camp, UtahUtes.com will take a deep dive into the home schedule along with hearing voices from the past and present about the incredible atmosphere Rice-Eccles provides.
 

The Utes will host two games in September, taking on Southern Utah on Sept. 10 and San Diego State on Sept. 17.

LAST TIME VS. SOUTHERN UTAH
Utah and Southern Utah have matched up once, in 2016 when Utah faced Southern Utah in the season opener. The Utes recorded their first shutout since 2012 and claimed a 24-0 victory. Troy Williams made his first start as a Ute and threw for 272 yards with two touchdowns. Tim Patrick had 105 receiving yards on five catches with two touchdowns. Cody Barton led the Utes with a career-high 11 tackles and Kylie Fitts had 1.5 sacks on the game.

BCS BUSTERS VS. SAN DIEGO STATE
The rivalry between the Utes and Aztecs continues in 2022 when San Diego State visits Rice-Eccles Stadium on Sept. 17. During the 2008 season, Brian Johnson kept No. 7 Utah on a BCS-busting course by throwing a career-high five touchdown passes in a 63-14 win over San Diego State on Saturday night. With the win, Utah improved to 11-0 on the season and clinched a share of the Mountain West Conference Title. Utah went on to have a perfect 13-0 season and earned a 31-17 win in the Sugar Bowl against Alabama.
