Chiles, Alipio to Compete at U.S. Gymnastics Championships
UCLA's Jordan Chiles and Ciena Alipio will compete at the 2022 OOFOS U.S. Gymnastics Championships on Aug. 19 and 21 in Tampa, Fla.
Chiles is competing in her first elite meet since helping Team USA win silver at the Olympic Games last year. An eight-year U.S. National Team member, Chiles placed in the Top 3 in the all-around in every domestic competition in 2021, including third at the Olympic Trials and U.S. Championships, and first at the Winter Cup. Chiles has seen success at the U.S. Championships, winning silver in the all-around in 2017, silver on vault in 2018, and bronze in the all-around and vault in 2021. At the junior level, she won the vault title in 2015 and was third on vault and floor in 2014.
During her freshman season in 2022, Chiles qualified to the NCAA Championships on uneven bars and floor exercise and earned All-America honors on floor. She also scored three perfect 10s during the season – two on floor and one on bars. Chiles received All-Pac-12 acclaim on three events (vault, bars, floor) and recorded team-bests of 23 9.9+ scores and 10 9.95+ scores.
Alipio, an incoming freshman, is coming off a Top 10 all-around finish at her most recent competition, the U.S. Classic. She competed at the U.S. Championships in 2021 and placed ninth on beam. At the junior level, she tied for second on beam in both 2018 and 2019 and also earned a sixth-place all-around finish in 2019.
