Sturdivant Named To Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List
TYLER, Texas – Cal's J.Michael Sturdivant was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List for the first time in his career on Tuesday when the watch list was announced at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler 16th Annual East Texas Kick-off Luncheon.
The award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football with ties to Texas who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell – integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to present and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. Nominees must meet one or more of the following criteria – born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas high school, played at a Texas-based junior college, or currently playing at a Division I four-year college in Texas.
Sturdivant's hometown is Highland Village, Texas, and he played prep football at Marcus High School in nearby Flower Mound.
The watch list will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and up to five finalists in December as selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet and the announcement of the winner scheduled for January 11, 2023.
