Aug 14, 2022
Jake Himelstein scored in both of Cal's preseason wins.

RIVERSIDE/BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Nate Carrasco and Jake Himelstein scored gamewinners as the California men's soccer team opened the 2022 preseason with victories at UC Riverside on Friday and at Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday.

At Riverside, Carrasco scored twice, including the gamewinner, while Himelstein and freshman Rohan McEligot scored one goal apiece in a 4-0 win over the host Highlanders.

On Sunday, Himelstein scored in the 78th minute, off an assist from McEligot, to lead the Golden Bears to a 1-0 result over the Roadrunners.

"As preseason goes, guys are starting to feel it in their legs a little bit, so to go out and get a result today, it was a good sign of what we're hoping for this season," Cal head coach Leonard Griffin said Sunday. "To continue to implement the Cal style of play was a bright point. We're feeling excited and optimistic to get all the little details right. We look forward to our last preparation game vs. Pacific, and here we go."

Cal closes the preseason on Friday at 1 p.m., when the Bears host Pacific on Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium. The Pac-12 Networks will broadcast the exhibition match.
