Double Bronze In Rome

ROME – California's Björn Seeliger and Robin Hanson earned bronze medals for Sweden in the 4x100-meter mixed freestyle relay on Monday night at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. The duo teamed up with Swedish women Sarah Sjostrom and Louise Hansson to take third place in the event in 3:23.40.
 
A late swap put Seeliger in the leadoff leg and the rising junior executed, touching the wall in 48.09, 0.75 seconds better than his previous personal best. Hanson handled the second leg with a 48.91 split before Sweden turned it over to Sjostrom and Hansson. France won gold in 3:22.80 and Great Britain was the runner up in 3:23.30.
 
Cal's Swedish duo has been plenty busy so far through five days of the European Championships at Parco Del Foro Italico in Rome. Seeliger set Swedish and Nordic records in the 50m backstroke with a 24.79 in prelims before ultimately taking ninth in the semifinals (25.09) while Hanson helped Sweden place eighth in the 4x200m men's free relay (1:48.56 leadoff split). Seeliger and Hanson finished 14th (48.96) and 26th (49.52), respectively, in the 100m free.
 
In the remaining two days of the championship meet, Seeliger will swim the 50m free and Hanson will swim the 400m free.
 
Sebastian Somerset, a rising senior who is swimming for Great Britain, was 23rd in the 50m back (25.69). He is additionally slated to swim the 100m back.
