2022 Football Fall Camp: Utes Name Captains and Leadership Council

Aug 19, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – Fall camp is winding to a close as members of the Utah football program prepare for the start of school and the transition to the team's in-season schedule. Camp practices continued this week, and the Utes will hold one final scrimmage before going full speed ahead in prep for the Sept. 3 season opener at Florida in The Swamp.

With the wrap-up of camp has come the naming of the Utes' captains and leadership council for the 2022 season. As is the case each season, both the captains and leadership council were selected by a vote of the team.

The Utes' four captains include Brant Kuithe and Cameron Rising on the offensive side of the ball, plus Devin Kaufusi and Clark Phillips III on defense. The 16-man leadership council consists of the four captains, along with Bryson Barnes, Micah Bernard, Braeden Daniels, Solomon Enis, Paul Maile, Dalton Kincaid and Devaughn Vele on offense. Defensively, it includes Cole Bishop, R.J. Hubert, Andrew Mata'afa, Karene Reid and Miki Suguturaga.

Utah elected a contingent that is experienced not only on the field but in guiding their teammates. Rising was named a captain in 2021 and served on the leadership council both in 2020 and '21, while four others have been part of the leadership council for at least one season.

In addition to Utah's practice schedule, it was a busy week around the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center, as the Utes held their annual Preseason Content Day and six members of the program were named to the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List.
