Former Trojan Tri Bourne Wins 2022 AVP Manhattan Beach Open
LOS ANGELES--Former Trojan and Tokyo Olympian Tri Bourne joined with Trevor Crabb to capture the 2022 AVP Manhattan Beach Open on Sunday (Aug. 21), defeating Theo Brunner and Chaim Schalk in the final, 21-17, 21-14. This is the second consecutive MBO championship victory for the pair after they won in 2021.
Bourne and Crabbe forged a straight path to the championship match by winning every match and defeating Taylor Crabb and Taylor Sander in the semifinal.
It was Bourne's tenth pro victory (his sixth with Crabb), including his seventh AVP win. He is the sixth Trojan male to win the prestigious Manhattan Beach Open (the longest running pro beach tourney in the U.S., since 1960), joining Mike O'Hara (1960-61-62-63-64), Ron Lang (1965-66-67), Steve Obradovich (1976), Tim Hovland (1982-83-84-85-87) and Adam Johnson (1994-95).
Former Trojan Andy Benesh also competed in the Main Draw of the tournament where he fell in the second round, but battled back out of the contender's bracket where he reached the semifinals to tie for third place.
Another Trojan, Sara Hughes, and her partner Kelley Kolinske captured the women's side of the Manhattan Beach Open. It was her first Manhattan Beach Open victory.
