Beavers In Italy: Oregon State Comeback Bid Comes Up Just Short vs. Latina, Beavers Tour Vatican

LATINA, Italy – The Oregon State men's basketball team's comeback came up just short against Latina, as the Beavers fell 80-76 in the final game of their Italy tour.
 
Oregon State began the day by touring the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. The Beavers finish up their three-game foreign swing with a record of 2-1. OSU will depart for Corvallis on Friday.
 
Dexter Akanno led the Beavers with 18 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor. Glenn Taylor Jr. had 13 points to go with five rebounds. Jayden Stevens rounded out the trio of Oregon State players in double-figures, putting up 10 points, four rebounds and a block.
 
Jordan Pope ended his day with nine points, four assists and two steals. Chol Marial had 10 rebounds, while Michael Rataj came up with six points, eight rebounds and three steals.
 
The teams went back-and-forth in the first quarter, with the Beavers ending the period in front 24-22. Latina started the second half with a 11-0 run, but Oregon State responded go to level the score three minutes before the break. The Beavers entered the intermission trailing 45-38.
 
Oregon State trailed 67-56 heading into the closing frame, but a late surge got the Beavers within two with 90 second to play, before Latina closed out the four-point win.

The Beavers played three games in Italy:
 

  • Aug. 20 – Oregon State 72, Streetball Livorno 59
  • Aug. 23 – Oregon State 88, Stella Azzurra 38
  • Aug. 25 – Latina 80, Oregon State 76

 
Oregon State will begin practice for the 2022-23 season in September. The Beavers' nonconference schedule will be made public when available.
