No. 25 USC Women's Volleyball Set for Bluejay Invitational

LOS ANGELES - The 25th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (3-0) heads to Omaha, Neb., for the 2022 Bluejay Invitational hosted by Creighton this weekend (Sept. 2-3). The Women of Troy start off with a 10:30 a.m. CT (8:30 a.m. PT) meeting with Northern Iowa on Friday (Sept. 2) and close out the first day against 17th-ranked host Creighton at 7:30 p.m. CT (5:30 p.m. PT). The Trojans then meet No. 16 Kentucky to wrap up the three-match weekend at 5 p.m. CT (3 p.m. PT) on Saturday (Sept. 3).

  • USC is led by third-year head coach Brad Keller who has the unique experience of having also served as an assistant coach for the USC men's volleyball program.
  • The Trojans return just six letterwinners from last year's squad. Four transfers and seven freshmen make up the lion's share of USC's 17-woman roster.
  • USC swept its three opponents to open a season for the first time since 2006 and for just the fifth time since 2000 (2000, '02, '03, '06).
  • The Trojans' nine-set win streak matches their longest under Keller (2021).
  • The Bluejay Invitational marks the final of an eight-year annual rotating-host tournament featuring the Trojans, Bluejays, Wildcats, and Panthers dating to 2014. The tourney was not played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • USC has won this four-team tournament four times (2014, '15, '16, '18) and holds a 15-6 record in the last seven times it was played. Creighton won the tournament the other three years (2017, '19, '21).
  • The Trojans are 5-4 all-time in the state of Nebraska and 1-4 all-time in the city of Omaha.
  • Sr. OH Skylar Fields was named Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference. She ranks third in the league at 4.00 kills per set.
  • So. S Mia Tuaniga was named the 2021 AVCA Pacific South Region's Freshman of the Year and earned Most Outstanding Player at last week's Cardinal & Gold Classic. She leads the Pac-12 in service aces (1.00 saps) and ranks second for assists (11.67 aps).
  • Gr. MB Kalyah Williams was named to the Cardinal & Gold Classic all-tournament team and ranks third in the Pac-12 with a .529 hitting percentage.
  • Fr. LIB Gala Trubint leads the Pac-12 in digs (4.00 dps).
